Default What do you get from this image?

If you want to know, 5 centimeters per second.

Subtitles are from a third person.

"Far beyond me, something towards the distance"...eh, that's kinda corny. What is that, anime? That stuff bothers me.

Of course, poetic language is so beta NF

    As in Terminator 2:

Well, if you ignore the subtitles, then...?

Like I said, they're from a third person. Context is she's describing the guy who's standing up. The fact that the images seem to show up when she's talking about Guy would indicate that this is her perspective of how Guy is feeling. ?

    EDIT

    Ok, whatever. Analysis dump.

Guy standing up is Guy. Girl beside him is Og. Girl narrating is Girl. Og is a random decision.

Guy is always relating what it feels like to be adrift in time. Legendary poetrical theatical quotes like "Stranded out there in the wilderness, every minute felt like a crushing blow" (essentially). Always has a distant look on his face, seems completely oblivious to any behaviour that isn't spelt out to him. Seems IEI to me.

Girl is much more focused on attempting to understand Guy from his shoes. She's also characterized as another "drifter"--there's a specific scene where she hasn't handed in her careers survey. I'd read into this as not wanting to close off options. The film really doesn't waste scenes, at all. Also shown to have studied like mad to hang on to close contact to Guy, and is trying to learn to surf. LSE, maybe? (Though, I think there might just be a case of Japanified EII. "Girl, not working hard?! Wtfoot.")

The whole point of those corny subtitles is that Girl is rationalizing to herself that it's completely pointless to be all hung up over Guy, because Guy is off in his mystical hazy dreamworld--"Looking past me to something distant". She's also immensely liberated by this, as shown by her success in surfing, and greatly elevated demeanour in a later scene. Also, symbolism and quaquaqua.

    FURTHER CLARIFICATION

The scene is Guy's Ni-imagery, from what I can grasp. Og (the girl next to Guy, who is not speaking) is also part of this Ni-imagery.

I'm awful at explaining things |:

That confused me. Like this happens repeatedly, like a dream sequence? He's standing right next to her - is that her imagination too? Whut?

Overall, I'd say the image has a sense of wistfulness about it. Maybe implications of some future adventure too. But that's probably b/c far too many sci-fis include scenes of staring into the sunset at a distant planet.

If you take away the anime characters and the subtitles, I would def like it a lot better.

As it is right now, the subtitles make it unbearably cheesey

Not sure what the context is .. but it strikes me as a bit depressing. Like everything is so much bigger and grander than themselves and they can't control what's going to happen.
