    Default Common Misconception of ENTP

the most common misconception here is that ENTPs are these huge slackers. People think they are bad in school, don't get far in life, aren't high achievers, not motivated, can't finish anything, etc etc etc.

That is completely false. Most of the ENTPs I know are very well educated and accomplished. Posters are wrong when they say ENTPs don't get things done. That's simply not true, and can apply to any and all types.

Just for example; here is my Psyche teachers profile. He's a hardcore ENTP. I blanked out some words and numbers because I dont want to give personal info out. But just to give you an idea:

A graduate of the University of _, Tony is currently a full-time professor of philosophy and human relations at _ College in _, _,Canada. In addition to holding degrees in psychology and philosophy, he is a certified reality therapist and enneagram teacher offering workshops and consultations as a behaviour education specialist. Tony has a particular interest in the therapeutic applications of philosophical wisdom and in spiritual, transpersonal psychologies dealing with ego function -- particularly the account given in A Course in Miracles. He is the author of Moral Philosophy for Modem Life (Prentice Hall, 1998), Mastering Human Relations 2/e (Prentice Hall, 1999), Moral Philosophy: Theories, Skills and Applications and an introductory textbook to be published in 2001 entitled, Exploring Philosophy. Tony has been listed in "Who's Who in the Humanities" and in "Profiles in Business and Management: An International Directory of Scholars and Their Research "published by the Harvard Business School. He can be contacted by e-mail at _ or by telephone at _

Well, There are a lot of ENTp professors out there and I think there was never a misconception about ENTp's being unsuccessful. It's just that they tend to struggle in school in subjects only when it involves lots of routine work. Though, they tend to do much better in university because of the abstract learning and theory compared to elementary school and high school.

It's just like the stereotype of ENTj being aggressive loudmouths.

My dad is an ENTj and for the most part he isn't an aggressive loud mouth and is friendly. He does have an aggressive switch, but it is only turned on when he is extremely stressed. That is definitely a stereotype, ESTj's tend to fit that description a lot more than ENTj's.

That's true, people talk about ESTjs being teddy bears inside and I think that is true. Here is a story that I somewhat remember with an ESTj I know and a homeless kid:

One day an ESTj was walking on his way to work when he stumbled upon a kid that was asking him desperately for spare change. The ESTj said he would of given a dollar to him, but because he asked in an annoying manner, he refused to give it. The homeless kid told him to fuck off and the ESTj said the same. End of story? Wrong!

The next day, the ESTj went up to the homeless teenager at the same spot and gave him 5 dollars and asked him why he is homeless. The homeless teenager replied that he hates his parents. The ESTj said that no matter how hateful your parents may seem or how demanding they are, they still love you and care about you. They then talked for about 10 minutes and walked away.

The next day, the homeless teenager was not there anymore. Supposedly back at home or maybe went to another spot. Either way this story makes me very happy, a little bit teary and brings down stereotypes.

@Original post: just stop caring. I have noticed people in every type have noted some sort of typism or stereotypes that they might have heard in some random place, and it started bothering them. Funny thing about some of these stereotypes is that people in other types may not have even noticed or thought about them. It's just stupid. Nothing more.

Yeah, there are people that don't have a trouble or a problem with endless repetition, maintenance tasks and doing daily things that are so routine they make you sick.

I hate to pick at certain types but I think it is these four that tend to do this and frown at others as lazy for not being able to do the same:

Joy, your sig always confuses me into thinking your laughing at every post.

Anyways, I agree and I think that those suffering A.S.D will tend to fall into that category. Not sure if you heard about it, but it is the opposite of A.D.D. and it is much worse. It's called Attention Surplus Disorder. Basically a person that is as boring as a pole and is literally a walking robot. Seriously, they should be testing people for this and be prescribed a high dosage of nilatir.

Yes but the real reason is their weak . They do routine work now because they feel stressed in expectation of things happening or of their having to do them.

I think the real point is that they are HUMAN BEINGS and not robots.

What are your obessions with the extremes?

This thread is already filled with them. "Since ENTps don't have the stereotypical work-loving traits, then they all must be lazy bumbs.". "If you combine a judger with a sensor, then these people must never do anything other than work."

    Give me break...

No matter how hard you try, no one type is going to be a 100%, complete stereotype that you like to think up. No one type is a complete extreme. I find it funny that people on all these boards just LOVE to call this an "Sj world" or whatever, then say that all these people are working robots, but where are all these people? How many of these kinds of people have you ever met in your life? Maybe one old guy who happened to be your work with your Dad once? Maybe?

Fuck you Keirsey, I hate you.

I think ENFjs would fit that description also, but not because of their weak . I think they actually hate routine work, but do it for the reasons you stated.

Yeah I think that is a pretty accurate analysis. Noone really likes routine work, but certain types feel obligated to it more than others.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I feel guilty when I don't do housework, but it's still a chore and I get out of it whenever I can.
