Thread: What is Socionics?

    Default What is Socionics?

Answer in your own words as if you had just been asked by a totally average person. Assume that they have as minimal an education as possible and don't have all day to stand around listening to you blabber on about it (in other words, answers should be in as few words as possible).

This thread's purpose is to gather as many different responses as possible from as many different viewpoints as possible. It is NOT intended to be a deep discussion or argument over the "correctness" of each others answers. So feel free to answer no matter what you're skill or understanding of Socionics.

    Q: What is Socionics?

    Go.

    I would say:

It's about psychological types and their interaction.

Because it is probably the most simple and right way to define it.

They would probably don't understand it, or want to change the subject, which is fine with me since I don't like to discuss socionics with layman. They always think they know it better...

Someone asked once this and I said:

Socionics is everywhere. It's all around us, even in this

very room. You can see it when you look out your window or

when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you

go to work, when you go to work, when you pay your taxes.

Socionics is the world that has been pulled over your eyes,

to blind you from the truth.

coworker: "Hey Nick, what's the site you're always on at work?"

    Cracka: "It's a socionics site."

    coworker: "A what site?"

Cracka: "A personality typing/pop psychology kinda thing, nothing I really care much about."

    coworker: "Oh, ok. "

Cracka: "There's lots of hot chicks on there though."

coworker: "What's the name of that site again?"..... "Nevermind, I'm gonna play some more spider solitaire, I still can't be your high score."

Well, you see, at any given moment your brain is bombarded with literally a bajillion sources of stimuli. You look around, detect a familiar scent, feel an ache in your lower back, maybe you think about the meaning behind a friend's words, or the pain in her voice. Perhaps you can picture how something happens from origin to extinction and back again, realize how that might be broken into segments and improved in this or that way. Whatever it is you see, feel, and think, whatever forms the basis for how the world seems to you, that's only a fragment of everything there is. You only ever capable of receiving a piece of the puzzle.

Socionics is a theory that deals with how individuals most naturally deal with these sources of information and how they may fit together or butt up against one another. Someone seeing a pyramid from below may see a square while the person looking at the profile is presented with a triangle. Neither one is inherently wrong, their perspectives simply limit them from acknowledging how they might be reconciled if they recognize the extent of their own limitations. That's not to say that socionics is a theory about how everyone can always be right in their own way. The example just portrays one facet of a greater problem, which is that no one knows if there's a damn pyramid in the first place and that each of our vantage points obscures as much as it illuminates. We only experience what we are capable of.

Neither is socionics a theory leading necessarily into skepticism, however. All it does is point to potential sources of information and perhaps leave the individual with a greater appreciation of what we're talking about when we discuss the 'truth' of any given matter. Socionics also attempts to explain what kind of person provides the most complementary to the most opposing perspective to your own, which in theory tells you the ease or difficulty a potential relationship might present, as well as preventing you from ever getting laid again in your life.

socionics is a model of informational metabolism, perception, and exchange in humans. it builds off of jungian premises that suggest that different people communicate most naturally using different styles of informational exchange. it seeks to describe the different types of information, as well as how human behaviors are motivated or affected by differences in informational processing.

    What he said.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

this was what I came up with... I'm still not happy with it, could be simplified and tightened up more etc.. I kind of didn't finish it either lol.

Socionics is a method of recognizing and examining peoples personalities and the relationships that form between them. A central point of the system is that our personalities "color" the way we experience and share the world we live in. Our minds, appear to favor experiencing certain parts of the world while overlooking or avoiding others. In Socionics these different parts are considered to be different types of information.

Every persons personality is unique, yet our tendency to favor or avoid different parts of the world we live in cause similarities between people. Socionics recognizes sixteen different personality "types" or patterns of valuing information.

When people who have different personality types interract with eachother, the information that's valued by one person may not be valued by the other person in the same way. Over time these differences generally become increasingly obvious as the relationship tends towards a recognizable pattern, or type, of it's own. Socionics recognizes sixteen different types of relationship patterns that a person encounters in life.

Since two people who have the same personality type have the same pattern of valuing information, they will both tend towards the same type of Socionics relationship with a third person of a different personality type.

Using this sytem a person skilled in recognizing these personality types can make an educated guess at the direction their relationships may take.

Socionics is also about psychological theory, something that should in essence transcend social class. You will obviously not communicate with somebody that has a different language than you for example, or doesn't share your same values as doing so obviously comes too painful.

Lifestyle and career also has nothing to do with this shit, it is about psychological (and physiology) comfort. Especially since your dual tends to have a different lifestyle than you completely.

Duals usually share your same deep values and interests (about values and class society, ie your ideal view of the world that you were imprinted with when you were in your mother's womb. The very general stuff ie a liberal or conservative viewpoint etc.) but have totally different lifestyles in actual reality. So a Dual is your Hand to your Heart (or vice versa, depending on who is the extroverted partner) in order to make your 'dreams come true.' But of course, in order for any relationship to work, you also have to usually be physically attracted to your dual, and understand them in language etc. Obviously. There's really nothing mystical going on here, though it can seem that way.

For example. IEIs love to write, and SLEs usually love to read. SLEs usually love to play sports, IEIs usually like to jack off to gay athletic porn.

Socionics can help you avoid potentially dangerous relationships faster. But, even your unhealthy Dual can murder you or cause you unhappiness - and it merely explains a science and a kind of attraction and doesn't take away your rights. So, it's complete liberal faggotry schoolyard shit that you cannot 'Do' with anything per se, but it can keep you informed so your decisions are hopefully a bit healthier.

I like this, bg. Niffweed's was more of the style I would have chosen—an impersonal, theoretical abstract—but your more colloquial delivery is one that I would guess to be taken better by the listener. It tells them what it is without losing sight of its existence in real life.

I've mentioned it to a few people as "a system based off Jung's theories like MBTI was, but developed separately and including really neat hypotheses about interactions between the types."

If I were to try to describe it to someone who hadn't heard of MBTI, I guess it'd go something like this:

Carl Jung wrote about four polarized preferences in the human awareness for interpreting input. Sometime later, two schools of thought arose based off his theories, one in the U.S. and one in Russia. They are quite similar in some ways, but not in everything. I started off reading about the American school, and in online research came across the Russian school. After a while, the Russian one seemed much more sophisticated, and I found a lively forum full of people talking about it. Over a year later, I'm still compulsively visiting it. One of the most fascinating things is how people go back and forth in describing themselves and others in order to find the parts of the theory that fit, and fitting the parts of the theory to what they want to see in themselves and others. As Bukowski wrote, "the impossibility of being human."

Then I'd laugh and be embarrassed to say all of that at once, and fall completely silent to compensate for monopolizing the conversation.

Socionics is about different types of information, how we process them, and how that affects our relationships with other people.
"To become is just like falling asleep. You never know exactly when it happens, the transition, the magic, and you think, if you could only recall that exact moment of crossing the line then you would understand everything; you would see it all"

"Angels dancing on the head of a pin dissolve into nothingness at the bedside of a dying child."
