I am somewhere between option #2 and #3. I can tell the difference easily but their taste is not that much unalike.

This is veeeeery interesting. There are only two kinds of people: Coca Cola supporters and Pepsi supporters. A tricky issue here.

You're in OZ, right? Soda's made slightly differently depending on where it's made ... for instance, in the US a lot of the time they use corn syrup instead of sugarcane or other sweeteners. And in the US, I find Pepsi to be much sweeter but also have this disgusting syrupy kind of mouthfeel. Coke has that feel to a much lesser extent, and RC Cola has it the least. The big guys have a definite aftertaste, and RC has almost none - and I actually once described it as "clear" to a friend.

I gave up drinking soda a few years ago, but when I was traveling through SE Asia in September, since we were only drinking bottled stuff anyway, I did try Coke in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan. In the first 3 countries, it tasted sweeter but crisper than in the US, and in Japan it actually tasted less sweet and the gloppy mouthfeel was worse. But in Japan we were also given little packets of stuff called "gum syrup" to sweeten our tea, so maybe there they also are big on using high-fructose syrups instead of cane sugar.

It's easy to tell and coke is much better than pepsi (unless you're comparing the non-diet versions, in which case I'm not sure I've ever had a regular pepsi). Still, I stand by my earlier decision to piss all over pepsi.

it's truly disgustingly sweet. When I was younger, I used to watch in amazement when people would drink an entire can of it. I could only tolerate one sip, and only if I was desperately thirsty. blech.

    It is amazing.

I know a woman who drinks several bottles of Dr. Pepper daily. She also happens to be morbidly obese, which made me curious... I did some math and concluded that if she switched the soda w water, she would lose more than 100 pounds in one year [all other things being equal]. Yikes!

That's crazy. I think people don't think it's necessarily bad for you because it's a drink...they're not realizing that it's what, like 800 calories in a few bottles? I feel bloated and miserable after a diet pepsi, i could only imagine how i'd feel after regular. Have you considered telling her this? Okay..maybe not the best idea...lol

Yeah, I thought about telling her but I know her well enough to know she won't listen to me. The way she sees it, she's too far gone to turn back now

And I agree, Redbaron, it would be some kind of revolution, heh. It really is amazing how much abuse our bodies are able to put up with and still function for so long....

my mother-in-law is like that. Overweight with lots of health issues including diabetes. but she continues to drink soda and eat whatever she feels like (which often includes pie and donuts at any time of the day). It makes me sad to watch it but you can't tell her anything, she's just going to do what she wants. Whenever a doctor says something to her, she balks and switches docs. I care about her but it baffles my mind that someone could live like that, ignoring the signals their body is sending and the inevitable break-down that will entail.

I've read that they put some rats piss urine in Coca Cola. That was the secret ingredient.

And the French swim in red wine before sell it...

And the Moroccan shit in the hash before sell it...

And Tyler Durden spits in the food before he gives it to the customers...

And the boogeyman looks in the closet searching for CHUCK NORRIS

I used to like coke more than pepsi, but now they both are somewhat unappealing to me. Pepsi was too weak tasting.
Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.
