    Default Thread for winter photographs

This is a thread for your winter pictures.

I'll start with some that I took of my dog this afternoon.

The "Why are you making me sit in this cold snow? How long do I have to stay like this? And what is that you're pointing at me?" picture:

    Crazy dog:

    Playing with a stick:

I had the hardest time getting him to look at the camera, so I made him sit and stay until he looked at me:

    <3 my puppy!

I'm hoping for more icy stuff this week.

It snowed earlier and melted (some) later today. So I went out in between to get some pictures of all the prettiness.

The dog looks mean, but he is still our best friend. Men's best friend.

My snowman. Apparently the hat makes him look asian?

Anyway, despite his recent passing, he needs a name. Suggestions are welcome.

EDIT: You can see more pics of today here.

He looks like something out of Vaudeville. So I'll go with Chester.

He's only mean to other animals (like chickens) and occasionally strangers. But even then he's never bitten anyone (though there's always a first, I suppose). I have absolutely no fear of him.

Hm, Chester... I will take it into consideration.

Speaking of Vaudeville, my sister said she watched some Buster Keaton today. The one about the trains. /random fact

How many inches is that? And is that the same window that your cat was looking down from in that one picture?

And, yes, it's pretty. It's funny how snow turns everything monochromatic - black and white.

Some pics from a couple days ago when I decided to go for a hike in the snow. I only busted my ass once and the only thing I hurt was a little pride.

When you're waiting on a friend who takes much longer to get a bunch of good pics, you start to ponder other shit to take pics of...lol. So I grabbed a stick and wrote my name.

That's the city where my girlfriend lives, btw. She complains that it's not big enough, but I always tell her that the scenery compensates by far the relatively small size.

Depending on the camera you use, you can use a UV filter to get rid of the haze.

I really want to visit Italy someday. It's in one of my top goals for my life.

You often can reduce the amount of haze in your pictures by adjusting the levels using a program like the Gimp (which is free) or Photoshop. For example, I took the liberty of doing a simple auto-adjust with the levels in Photoshop with one of your pictures and this is how it looks now:

It may not be exactly how you'd want it, but at least by making the darks a little darker and the lights a little lighter, you bring in more contrast and definition, which reduces the effects of the fogginess.

Even the bigger roads don't show pavement.

See how the tree in the background is kind of bent to one side? It was windy when the freezing rain hit, so a good portion of the trees and other larger foliage have been frozen into leaning positions, which is odd to see on such a still day.

The flag got frozen, too. I wonder if someone dared it to lick the pole.
