    Default Pride

I have a question for all of you to ask? Are you proud of your personality type? Would you have it any other way? I personally like my personality type (ENFP), though I'm aware of its faults as much as my strenghts. Though, if I was another type I would probably like that too. Which begs the question, are we programmed to like our own personality type? Okay, if I was ENTJ or ISFP or whatever, I would still be happy with it. Though, I have noticed that there are people that are proud of their type, they may not admit it, but I have picked it up here and there. I've noticed that people are usually proud of their main function or a certain attribute. Like for example an ISTJ, might be proud on the fact that he/she is introverted. Being an ENFP, I'm most proud of my probably because it is my main function. Though, I also admire other types like ENTJ, ISTP etc... What are your opinions on this matter?

Yes, I am proud of being INTp. If you aren't proud of your type, I would be seriously worried about you.

I am proud of my type, but not to the point that I'm blinded by the faults that I have and see myself as being better above others. I'm not only proud of my own type, but I'm proud of other types as well and I see the potential and greatness in them.

I am apparently the most boastful person in the forum. Why do people think I'm boasting if I speak enthusiastically about something?

I have a type, so what? I'd be proud of who I was even if I didn't have a type. Type just explains who I am.

No. It's all right would be caring about it... "I don't care” is completely apathetic.

wouldn't have me any other way. even after having gone through ostracisation, censure, direct attack and isolation for it at various times in life, and despite the standard weaknesses that come with it. my self is precious to me, beyond all common sense and reason.

That's how I see it, too.

I have read that, if you really typed yourself correctly, and understand what your type is all about, necessarily you should be happy with it - that is, everyone would think that their type is the "right" or "best" type, at least for them. To put it another way -- you would always be glad that your strong functions are strong, precisely because they are your stronger functions.

Sometimes my son asks me if I'm proud of him. I tell him that I'm always proud of him, just like I always love him. If he does something impressive, then I say, "That's amazing Travis! You should be really proud that you did that!" blah blah blah To me pride can be both due to accomplishment AND unconditional.

Anyone being proud of being a particular type, is either new to type, or viewing it from a limited and subjective perception. If you truly love or despise any type, then you simply don't understand it.

I think everyone should post what their proud of and what they frown upon about their personality. Here is my list:

    As an ENFP I love:

    *My creativity and imagination
    *Spontaneous
*Can discuss abstract topics to others and enjoy doing them
    * See the world in a different perspective than most and poke fun at things that others would often miss.
*My empathy for things I have not experienced yet
*My writing and verbal speaking abilities

    I hate that:

    *I am impulsive
    *Irresponsible
    *Put myself into stressful situations
    *Perform strange movements
*Viewed as an idiot to those who misunderstand me
*I am gullible and often fall into traps in an act to be generous
*I don't understand things that are common sense to others

I don't think pride can be unconditional, unless someone proves himself over time. But I guess I can respect that sentiment in regards to kids, because I just don't think in the same way about kids. Family members criticize be because, after years of silence, I mentioned how I really don't like the idea of lieing to your kid about Santa Clause. There's nothing wrong with festivities, but I see no reason to outrightly lie to a child. I don't derive great utility from it, as other people seem to do. But that's a long story...

I don't see it as "Oh, I'm proud of my type! look at my type; it is wonderful and good"

I see it as how content with yourself you are. This is somewhat irrelevant of "type". I'd be "proud" of myself whatever "type" I tested out as. attaching a 'value' of 'good or bad', or love or despise... that's not really the heart of the matter.

I am curious, though: are there people who "like their type", but do not like "themselves"?

I read somewhere that part of having an identity is being proud of your own way of life and thinking it is better than others' ways of life, only in a non-derogatory way.

Well, Cone, it'll be interesting when cross-racial people become more and more predominant and how things will or will not change. How will that affect identity in a whole group? Imagine how a cross-racial person feels--whoa! They must be torn inside if they have no clear line between favored parents and heritage.
