It's a totally different discussion, but I have decided this year to no longer engage in all these 'forced' get2gethers with family, such as birth day parties and holidays, and focus on authentic get2gethers instead, such as inviting people I like for informal dinners where we can have a decent and connected conversation. I'm done with the 'have-to' gatherings where I have to sit and talk to people who are only nagging about things and who I probably will never see again or will not start a relation with (this is, btw, not so much type related as it is age-related).

with a family full of beta's thats nearly impossible for me without getting shit and guilt trips about it. ive done it though....ive gone to florida to visit a friend quite a few times as opposed to going to see the whole family.
the thing is, my family get togethers arn't that bad....well on my dads side anyway. when it comes to the obligation of the moms side, thats when im most inclined to bail. too much dysfunction and awkwardness....my mom is depressing.........
