Here's my own attempt: if you consistently find yourself bored and rarely do anything to address your boredom, that could be a sign that you're IP.

My father was one of those parents who always said "if you're bored, that must mean you're a boring person".

Agreed. Heh, at work back when I used to help out with some of the basic accounts (mainly processing invoices and whatnot), whenever an invoice was missing (i.e. it showed up on the list as having been done, but it hadn't been passed to the accounts section for processing) it was called a "Dead bunny". This all related to an email I sent out early on when I was doing that, which warned that if people didn't pass invoices through to accounts when they should, then bunnies would die. But yeah, I'm back on the accounts again covering someone who's on holiday for two weeks, and the main accountant (who I previously worked with) reminded me of that term yesterday.
There you go, completely irrelevant story for everyone's (in)digestion.

I disagree with this. Statics, and EPs especially are the most likely to complain about being bored (take jessica, Allie, Carla, edit: Mercutio, etc.).

FWIW I get bored. And people who have said that you must be a boring person, if you get bored. Well some of them can be damn boring! And they can do futile repetitive actions!

Bored EP's, not IP's
I don't get bored, but I am an IP and I might seem rather boring to outsiders, but it's not me that is bored. Never. Maybe "unmotivated" more often than I might wish to be, but that's not "boring" nor do I feel "bored" it's just "unmotivated" and there is plenty to do inside my NiTe head.
Sometimes I feel listless, and that isn't bored either, I am just searching for a certain something to do, but I don't know what it is, yet, and then I find it, whatever it happens to be that I stumble onto.
I am accustomed to hearing EP's say "I'm bored" ... the two in my house that say it are just that, and then there is the one IP (my 12 year old son) that says he's bored, but he's like me (ILI) just doesn't realize what "bored" means at his age, and when he says that I query him and it turns out I am right. He's just listless,or unmotivated.
My SEE husband is primary to the "bored" discussion in my home. He gets "bored" and so that term floats around, and my 7 year old son is the other EP and he frequently is "bored" and what looks like boredom and is borning to them is not what us IP's experience at all.
To me there is nothing "boring" -- just uninteresting things. There's is always something to think about, dream, build, wandering wherever in space and time. Books to read, things online to read, cats to pet, yards to walk in, windows to stare out, walls to stare at. Sound borning to EP's, no doubt. But it's not to IP's. Guaranteed.

INTps are never bored. I'm not totally sure about other IP types but the IP temperament should make you almost immune to being bored. EPs are the ones that get bored most easily.

Man, I now fully see how all a bunch of crazy shit that doesn't make sense gets started in the world...
I'm an IP temperament and I get bored just as much as the next person. I go through periods of intense creativity where everything seems all right in the world but they aren't that common. I do not think this is type-related at all. Why would it be?
If nobody in your vicinity is stimulating your right functions and you aren't around people that motivate your true desires (other quadra members) any type would get bored. By default we shut down our true selves to make a truce with what naturally clashes. (Some people try to fight against the tide but it seems pointless, because then it just makes the opposition push back harder... and it's just a tug of war with no end.)
