Explain why stealing is inherently bad, other than the fact that it doesn't propagate survival (which seems to be, largely in part, the basis for many ethical codes).

There is no workable rationale that suggests it is okay to steal someone's food unless you are in dire circumstances (Jessica's don't qualify).
