If you can't handle such wimpy criticism, you don't belong on the internet.

No wonder the brits are so snarky towards us! They give us Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, School of Language, and Radiohead and we give them.... Blink 182 and Good Charlotte?

"Fucking lol?" Dude, get a life. The kid killed himself.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Well specifically, I was laughing at the fact that the journalist is blaming Bebo and the fact that people were teasing him about being emo.

When clearly he had emotional and stability issues before hand. I was laughing more at the "journalism", not at the guy.

But what right do people have to make others miserable for their own entertainment?

Sorry about the confusion! I meant to reply to this:

I meant to say that this is what people always say: nobody is responsible, regardless of how they treat someone, if this someone has emotional issues (and even if they don't).

That makes me wonder what else people can get away with. It seems widely accepted that those who bully others cannot be held accountable and that bothers the hell out of me. Bullying can have a huge influence on somebody's mental health, regardless of whether or not s/he has mental issues. I don't see how people who knowingly harm people's well-being can claim that they have no responsibility.

This isn't about music and being teased. This kid was obviously deeply depressed and it can happen to all types of teenagers and adults. Many of these incidents occur with high achieving extroverted kids as well. It's nothing to laugh about...even on the Internet. To do so shows callousness at best; at worst, it hints at extreme sociopathy.

yeah I agree mostly, but most of the time there's something that drives the person doing the bullying to do it... so that also needs to be addressed

This thread makes me sad =[

Stuff like this to me hits home because I know the repercussions of being bullied... People make it a molehill, when it actually IS a mountainous problem.

I don't understand people who think it's funny that he killed himself over something so "small". It wasn't small. It was the straw on the camel's back that finally broke, causing his imminent suicide. Ugh.

I just absolutely abhor people who go around insulting others and purposely making their lives miserable in subtle ways... Do they not realize that they could be that "last straw" !? Do they not realize that this person that they are teasing may take it to heart, on top of all the other problems/mental health issues that they might have?

It just sickens me ... society. I see this all the time, obviously, in high school. So glad to be almost out. Sometimes people who do the teasing don't even understand that what they say may be taken so seriously by sensitive people. They think it's "just a joke" and that they meant nothing by it, nothing harmful. Fuck that... grr.

I believe that what needs to changed is not the behavior of the bullies, but the way that the bullying is being handled by the victims. Maligned children will always find a way to alienate the children who just don't fit in the social "mold".
I know this first-hand, once they have a lock on who they don't like, they will run themselves ragged to perpetrate their crimes.

The bullies themselves will not change. I believe it is partially the job of the victim to find help for themselves. Parents and administrators need to be very vigilant also.

But also to say, this kid was seriously messed up in ways that I don't know about, to smile and answer the door, then a short time way hang yourself? That is crazy.
