How do you say SOCIONICS?
We talked about this on stickam last night and I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about this. To me, it's always been socionics pronounced So-see-onics but I've now heard a few who say so-she-onics. I think it has much to do with accents and where someone is from.

You do realize you people who say so-she-onics are cheating, right. Onics is written as o-nics, and consists of two sylables, not one. Also, I would like to collect my prize for saying the word in the fewest possible syllables without cheating.

People actually say it? I just write it. However if I was to say it, it would be so-say-on-iks
I pronounce it the second way - but according to the dictionary (through similar words like 'sociobiology'), I believe the first way would be the most correct. I can't really understand the notation though.

The Russian transliteration ends up something like: Sotsioniko. That can go both ways, but I think So-see-on-iks is probably closer. I say we all pronounce the word with a Russian accent from now on, though.

I was thinking about this the other day. It causes me some anxiety, because I think I'd sound like a fool either way (i.e. that I was doomed to say it the wrong way to someone who knew how to say it the right way). The very small number of times I've said it out loud to someone, I've mumbled it and some phoneme which probably isn't used in the English language comes out in the ambiguous bit. But its good to know people say it both ways.
I pronounce all those socio- words with an sh sound. SoSHEEonics, soSHEEOpath, soSHEEology. I think it definitely has to do with where you're from, because I never hear these words(other than Socionics of course) pronounced differently.

It is "so-she-onics" simply because one says "social" as "so-shul" as opposed to "so-sal". Otherwise you just sound camp.

with finnish letters it would be so-si-o-niks. So in english, it would be with short o. If I tried to to pronounce it in english. I would change the first so to sou (like in the word "so"). So something like sou-si-o-niks.
So actually I would say it like this in english: Sou - (like word "so") si - (like in word "sit", without the t) o - (like the o in word "dog") - niks (like the word "Nick's").
