why i have difficulty discerning my type

i've been on this forums plenty, and have read pretty much all the available socionics information(suprised?). Anyway, there has been so many threads where people talk about a type, and want input from this type, quadra etc. I never have anything to say, because one of the biggest parts of my whole personality is an inability to talk about myself. I can talk about myself, but in a different sense, i can relay funny stories, things that happened, even ideas about the world around me. but i just don't think in terms of myself and what constitutes my behavior.

this is a situation i'm always in: I'm reading a message about some socionics about a type i believe i may be, and i want to buck up and relay something about myself, but whenever i try to, it seems ridiculous and doesn't make sense. Anyway, another example of this behavior(and a good one) is i was just reading 'tcaulliq'(or whatever)'s reply to my thread 'for rocky...' he states "he certainly has that Dubya look," in reference to my digital photograph(which is in inspiration to rocky's cause!! aahahaha). Anyway, the first thing i thought about after reading this statement is the way politicians look in general, how their faces have to be either kind and ingratiating, or very homely/intelligent. the last thing i think about is how i might look like dubya, know what i mean?

Anyway, i have such a difficult time talking about my feelings or self to other people that when i do it's usually very stormy. Sometimes i think of saying things and tear up, it's just incredibly difficult to express really genuine emotion. I have a habit of saying "thank you" when someone says "i love you," to make clever analogy. this is one of the things that struck me about the ISTp description, the poor control of emotions. i have that to an insane degree. This is why i've never had a close friend in my life. I never open up, but people always go on and on about themselves to me, and i ask questions, and offer insight, i just don't see myself in the equation. I meet so few people who are like this that when i do, they are the people i feel truly comfortable with. It's gotten so much to the point that i don't even like being around my friends because of the way they relate everything to themselves, and have to talk about themselves in every situation. it's just dull. one thing i guess that works in example to this is if i am watching a movie with someone and they say "I like that character," it bugs me. that's just never the way i look at things. I just see that character, and what constitutes it's behavior, how it may relate to people i know, etc.

in summary: excuses for why i have nothing to contribute and how i have no feelings whatsoever.

another example i can think of: One evening a few friends and I were out and ran into some guys from a shitty local band that had mild success. anyway, we stayed and chatted with them for a good hour and a half about music, and i had nothing to say, because who the fuck cares about telling these people what you think? what you think doesn't matter, it's what you do goddamnit. so i was silent for pretty much 2 hours, and then one the ride home i said in a mocking/jovial voice, "that was a great exchange of opinions."

LOL! Concur. I try to be as formal as possible but sometimes I really just dont give a shit as long as the reader understands.

One of the issues I have in reguards to the whole "Who am I versus Socionics/functions issue" is that I see all functions in all of us. It is so difficult to discriminate to specifics when I see so much. The other issue is getting past sterotypes/generalizations and looking into what a functions really means. This is difficult because functions are just ideas to express. Many times these ideas are collective of our society or even cross-culture. Some of them have truth. Some of them are gross generalizations, etc etc etc. That is one of the negative aspects of a dual-system.

i don't like to intrude on others, i mean if somebody is into something i respect that tenfold. and whenever somebody really digs something and has a real strong interest in their life, i like them, i mean, that's a condition for my friendship. i just don't believe in arguing because i really don't enjoy the act. I'm not into proving others wrong or anything like that. When i was a kid i had two older brothers and with whatever sports we played i was the designated middleman, i always played goalie, or quaterback for both teams. I'm a honest to god team player, and not into my own thing. ya know? i do think SEE is a possibility. But I'm a very categorical person. In fact, i sometimes think i'm an ENTj, just because that mood indicator is "unbridled optimism," which combined with my social intelligence, and general life intelligence(i'm a very practical person, at least in thought, and my dictations to others), it makes sense. but i don't think any of you will agree because whatever i've projected on the forum, which i won't rule out or say i've faked.

but that said, last night i met up with this girl i haven't seen in forever, and she's an ultra party type and always up to something, so i think i'm gonna dissappear into her world for a while. hopefully i survive the drugs, snowboarding, sometimes bad music, and her little kid nature.

However, I believe this "randomness" phase has reached its apex, and a kind of organized reform is called for. The Anything Goes board is obviously a technical exception, but even here it would be nice to see "Anything Goes" interpreted as "Talk about politics, religion, love, pet peeves, etc." rather than "LOL TUCH MY BREATS."

What I propose is that the following steps be taken to boost the quality and stimulation levels of the content here:

1. Post less nonsense topics, or at least let these topics die quickly. A little zaniness from each of us is okay, but en masse it becomes irritating and demoralizing.

2. At least once a week, each of us (or specifically, the long-timers) should put serious effort into creating an honest, bullshit-free, stimulating topic for the purposes of intelligent discussion.

3. Each of us should try to offer at least one openminded response to each of these topics, thereby keeping the community friendly and welcoming to all ideas. If someone posts a trolling topic, ignore them until they decide to be more civilized.

4. Each of us should be nice.

Keep in mind that ALL OF THIS IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. I am not trying to force us all into a constricting set of rules. I just think the steps I have laid out will re-engender a sense of interest in many of us who have become bored, and will allow the high levels of intelligence many of us share to resurface into a stimulating environment.
