Default IEIs-INFps in inattentive, unresponsive, zoned out state

So sometimes you guys are really like...

    "Oh... hello...."

Right? Is that just your normal state? What does that mean?

I wonder if it is a general quality to be somewhat dismal or unresponsive to people you don't really like, and then extremely vibrant, even showing initiative towards those you are interested in?

I'm unsure of how to take the differences in approach, in regard to where I stand with a particular person who I believe is INFp. And another person, who I believe is beta NF in general.

I've found that too. It seems like they need 5 minutes or so to warm up their engine. The thought crosses your mind that they might be annoyed with you for some reason ... then you light upon a topic they're passionate about and before you know it they're talking your ear off again. They're great - I love them.

Sometimes people can be like that in general. I let em take their time to warm up

Well I talked to her a second time and she was more receptive

So yeah, the warm up thing apparently did work.

I'm usually reserved for the first 2-3 minutes (with people I do not know well) because I'm reading you, the environment and the dynamics of our interaction.

I also have difficulty hopping trains of thought. If I am interrupted mid-stream, resources are maxed so there will be a brain-to-mouth delay. These interruptions can be annoying, so I can seem short with people until I hop (no matter how much I like them).

Yes I agree with everything the others have said. I get lost in my thoughts AND it takes me a minute to rev the engine AND if I don't particularly like the person to start with, I'm going to avoid them and definitely not expend any energy talking to them. Saving that energy for people I want to pursue longer-term friendships with. I have a place I go every week where I see the same people and I almost always just talk to the same person, sometimes two people.

I've heard a good INFP friend of mine say this many, many times.

From my experiences, I think INFPs are just kind of chill and to themselves unless interacted with OR they have a particular reason to interact with you. Then it takes them a moment for them to decide you're genuine, they like you, whatever, and then yup... they'll talk your ear off. I really love INFPs.

Don't take offence to this people, but what I've actually found is that I'm repelled by IEIs. It's their over emotive nature; it really gets to me. You seem incredibly enthusiastic, and very moody in the sense that your moods are extremes. You're not stable enough for me emotionally.

I can understand this perspective. Frankly, I'm not stable enough for myself sometimes and I don't always like my overly emotional internal response to things. I love my INTj friend who listens to me and calms me down with her logic and level-headedness.

Betas overall are very unstable people. They tend to do things at times that baffle people. They tend to have an affinity for the depressive nature of things, and usually easily see the irony in certain things. Betas usually like to be viewed as impulsive, and are usually the type of people that try to make themselves known to others. Betas usually like to be in the spotlight, often in a chaotic and impulsive way.

Aren't chaotic, impulsive and (seemingly) unstable more words that describe irrationals rather than betas?

The judging/perceiving dichotomy has nothing to do with that; thats a myth. Its more important to have a functional look at it instead of an implicative one. Judging/perceiving doesn't have that big of an impact on what most people look for in types descriptions.

Betas are typically impulsive, chaotic, usually paranoid. They usually are very dark people.

Okay, "very dark" is a gross overstatement. I would in no way consider myself or any of the other betas I know to be "very dark".

    yeah. cause it's all relative.

it's the stereotype of betas that is dark, not betas themselves.

Betas are the wild people of the world. They like things that are original and neat; and they will usually try anything at least once. This often leaves people questioning what they do though.

I know a few ISTjs would try to outrun a cop trying to pull them over for a speeding ticket in a second. I know a bunch of Betas that love pain, or like people to know that they can withstand pain. Betas usually love drugs, usually like the wild life, and usually are overly rebellious to any type of authority trying to stop them.

Exactly. All Betas are suicidal, sadistic, impulsive, rebellious masochists who do drugs. Why is this so hard for you people to understand? Don't you know anything about socionics?

(...not that you should take the above description out of context...)

Every Beta I know has a very dark side, but that adjective covers a lot of ground between quadra-mates.

That's what you get for knowing people.

That said, if I am Beta as has been suggested. I don't have a dark side.

I'm one of the most even people around. I find that a lot of "dark" things are just projections.

It's like if someone tells you that you shouldn't trust someone else. It usually means you shouldn't trust them.

If you listen most people expose themselves - they aren't dark - they're a mix of dark and light - and if you keep your eyes and ears open - you'll see them as one and not get surprised.

Even when I'm bad I'm still light. I just never touch the dark. And I find that seems to keep dark people at bay to some degree. Like they can't penetrate the light.

Whereas when you're dark, it's much easier to be sucked in.

So stay light. Stay bright. Stay happy, and enjoy yourself.
