Default type crisis - please help

    Hi All,

I am having an type crisis. I hope you will indulge me and help me sort out my type. I have previously asked for assistance and feel a bit
awkward about asking again (especially because I rarely post - although
I have been lurking since day 1 and feel like I know all of you).

I always test INTJ, but lately I have been thinking maybe I am an ISTJ.
Below is some information about me.

    Thank you in advance.

    I am:

    Clothing:
    - Prefer dark colors.
    - Prefer casual styles and dislike clothing with visible name brands.
    - Don't care about or understand current styles or popular brands.
    - Will wear the same pair of shoes/sandles everyday for an entire season
    or until they wear out.
    - Not perfectly "pressed and polished."

    Hobbies:
    - Socionics
    - I like reading. I enjoy Robert Anton Wilson and science written for
lay people. Right now I am reading "A Rebirth of Nature" by Rupert
Sheldrake" and "Info Psychology" by Timothy Leary. (Some of you might
find Leary's Eight Circuits of Consciousness theory interesting.) I also enjoy fantasy books, especially children's books - like Harry Potter.
    - Researching subjects I find interesting, mostly fringe things like
OOPARTS, alien stuff, and conspiracy theories. (I read Fortean Times and
    sometimes listen to Art Bell.)
    - Soduko and other logic puzzles.

    Personal History:
    - As a child, I was pretty extraverted, but geeky. I was always the last kid picked for the team during PE.
    - As a child, I was weird about food. I couldn't acccept that eating meat and milk products was natural. (I am still a little picky. I will pay extra for organic food and sometimes eat a very restricted diet.)
    - As a young adult, I had several relationships and was very social - lot's of partying.
    - By my mid-twenties became very concerned that this was not a good way to live and became more reserved.
    - I used to love to write poetry and fiction and loved to read poetry (Brautigan, Ferlenghetti, Plath), but am no longer into it.

    Misc:
    - Can be a workaholic if the project is interesting.
    - Can a lazy procrastinator if the project is boring, but will force
    myself to complete it.
    - Prefer an urban enviornment, but to be alone within it.
    - Don't like the outdoors or engaging in physical activites, such as
    sports.
    - Great researcher.
    - Enjoy defining systems and procedures for others to follow, but can't
    follow them myself.
    - Have always struggled for self-control.
    - Often model conversations in preparation or ruminate on them
    afterward.
    - Hate having a body. The repetitious maintenance is so annoying, not to
mention all of the energy spent on earning money to purchase food,
shelter, clothing, and healthcare. I wish I could just be consciousness
    moving about and observing.
    - Sometimes go on rants at work. (This usually involves sales people.)
    - Can be very exacting about quality of work.
    - Don't notice my surroundings. My co-workers think this is funny and
have rearranged things in my office and hung things on the walls to see
how it will take me to notice. Sometimes people get very angry at me for
this, because they think I am ignoring them, but I really don't see or
    hear them.
    - Libertarian
    - Agnostic
    - Don't listen to music.
    - Don't answer the phone - always let it got to voicemail.
    - Very independant.
    - Sometimes very sensitive to how people treat me.
    - Very patient and loving parent.
    - Have never been able to master typing. I have to look at the keyboard.

You don't need to know your type. You need to find a way to communicate with your husband. Get off of the internet and go do it.

Kreatuv, this is probably pretty good advice, but easier said than done.
I work on Internet systems for a living, and have for several years. Although, I do sometimes fantasize about life without the Internet and living in a luddite commune ... Particularly when dealing with telco issues ....

As far as communicating with my ISTP husband. I didn't mean to imply that it is a difficult relationship. Although, I do hope that by defining my own type, that I may learn to communicate more effectively in general.

I find it very interesting that you zeroed in on the husband communication thing. I guess this post must come off in some whiney, weepy spirit. That wasn't my attention. Perhaps the "please help" in the subject came off as serious rather than tongue in cheek.

I have noticed that you have a very distinct style on the forums. I find it quite entertaining - guerilla ontology with an abrasive twist.

So, that being said. I'll go make myself a nice hot cup of "shut-the-fuck-up." (Since that will be your next suggestion.)

Not whiney, but Socionics is all about socialising and trying to understand people on the basis of a bunch of generalizations (welcome back to HighSchool preps, nerds, and jocks). It's obvious that you are looking, like so many others here, for a way to be understood or understand others more easily. More importantly, though, I would have to deduce that your husband and children would be some of, if not the most important, people in your life. So, it would seem what you're really looking for here is a way to communicate with him, whether or not you'll admit it. I'm sure you mentioned it for a reason. Unfortunately, I don't think socionics is going to help you do that, because it's not going to be able to target the truth of how someone really is, just give you a very vague generalisation.

The truth is, if you want to better communicate with people you should just go out and do it. That's the only way it will ever get done. Until then, I'd have to say you're just scratching a wound for fun to watch it bleed. Seriously. Stop thinking about it and just go do it.

I thought I was being "tongue-in-cheek," but I guess it didn't come off that way. I have been lurking on this forum since day 1 and it seems that many people seem confident of their type for awhile and have then begin questioning their orginal conclusion - as I am. I think of these breakdowns of belief as a "type crisis" - kind of like an existential crisis ;-P

Oh the irony... I actually told myself this very thing today and decided to start communicating with others by posting on this board rather than lurking. This may sound weird, but for me to submit that post took a lot of nerve. I think of it as self indulgent and self revealing - two things that I don't like to be. But, I think to communicate effectively you need to reveal yourself and I am earnestly trying to do that.

I agree that on a superficial level - it is generalizations. When you attempt to standardize anything - particularly for practical application, you fall into generalizations. However, I find the human nervous system fascinating and Socionics is a little peek into it.

Also, one cannot minimize the power of Socionics generalizations put to good use. I have ended many a software application scoping impasse, by knowing the types of my coworkers ;-)

    Balderdash!
This is exactly my point. If you get to know your co-workers and socialise with them in the first place then you wont need to know their types. However, if you place a label on them and limit yourself to believing that they are only capable of what their type says they are, then in reality, you are only keeping yourself from getting to be more social. And I don't want to hear the ninnypook about how you can know their types and then also socialise with them. It's just another generalisation used to stereotype people, and in the end it will be another excuse for you to avoid socialising with certain people because they are not your "type". You may as well just learn to identify them by the way that they dress, move, or talk: it's the same damn thing.

Modernized generalisation. Great... but it's still generalisation and dehumanizing, not to mention pointless

    Beetle,

I very much doubt you are ISTj.

In fact, I think you may well be a socionics ENTj.

The part about her dislike of sport and outdoors, togheter with the dislike of having a body, doesn't sound very ENTj to me.

I'm not very sporty myself, mainly because it's something I don't want to invest too much of my time on. I never thought about wishing I never had a body, though.

Expat, it's kind of odd you said that because I was considering the same thing. Some of the things beetle said sounded like she was describing weak Si, not weak Se.

beetle, the one thing that I can deduce about your type for your post is that you definately don't have strong sensing and therefore you are in fact intuitive.

There is always the chance of both being weak. The difference is in what is preferred-- ie., what is the path of least resistance?

"There is always the chance of both being weak."

No there isn't. Either intuition is strong and sensing is weak or the other way around. Do I just not understand what you are saying?
