    Default Pablo Picasso

He's an example of SLE, right ?

    quotes:

"I deal with painting as I deal with things, I paint a window just as I look out of a window. If an open window looks wrong in a picture, I draw the curtain and shut it, just as I would in my own room. In painting, as in life, you must act directly."

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."

"For me, there are two kinds of women — goddesses and doormats."

"The artist is a receptacle for emotions derived from anywhere: from the sky, from the earth, from a piece of paper, from a passing figure, from a spider’s web. This is a spider ’s web. This is why one must not make a distinction between things. For them there are no aristocratic quarterings. One must take things where one finds them."

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."

"Art is never chaste. It ought to be forbidden to ignorant innocents, never allowed into contact with those not sufficiently prepared. Yes, art is dangerous. Where it is chaste, it is not art."

"I can hardly understand the importance given to the word research in connection with modern painting. In my opinion to search means nothing in painting. To find is the thing. Nobody is interested in following a man who, with his eyes fixed on the ground, spends his life looking for the purse that fortune should put in his path. The one who finds something no matter what it might be, even if his intention were not to search for it, at least arouses our curiosity, if not our admiration."

"I do not seek, I find."

"It means nothing to me. I have no opinion about it, and I don't care."

" ... this bull is a bull and this horse is a horse... If you give a meaning to certain things in my paintings it may be very true, but it is not my idea to give this meaning. What ideas and conclusions you have got I obtained too, but instinctively, unconsciously. I make the painting for the painting. I paint the objects for what they are."

"Accidents, try to change them - it's impossible. The accidental reveals man."

"We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies. If he only shows in his work that he has searched, and re-searched, for the way to put over lies, he would never accomplish anything."

From what I do know of his life, I think SLE is very plausible.

What, for instance? All I know is that he was quite a badass and had many women.
I have always felt cubism was a dominant form of artistic expression.

Not just that -- I've read that he left women easily, yet was shocked if one left him, and was also said to "forbid" his exs from having other men -- something also said of Caligula.

I think it is Ni as well as Ti, at least more Ni than Ne.l

If not SLE, then LSI, I think.

Anyone see all the paintings of the bull fights where instead of a bull there's a penis? Very Aggressor/Victim me thinks. Don't like most of his work, but really liked those.

P.S. I agree with the SLE typing.

By the way, I don't know if a serious biographer of Picasso would agree with it, but someone has suggested that Picasso was totally cynical about cubism (at least after the initial success) and used it merely as way to increase notoriety and wealth. He was a hugely talented painter who could paint in any style he wished, yet went for cubism as a way to con the public.

If true, it reminds me of Andy Warhol, in whose private rooms nothing but classical paintings were found after he died -- no "modern" stuff at all.

And if true, Picasso would be laughing at all those who went ga-ga over his cubist paintings.

I just remembered, that "someone" was the British author Paul Johnson, who wrote a great deal on Picasso. Not sure if many others share his views. I don't claim to even understand what's great about cubism, myself.

I thought Picasso was ESFp initially, but I see some reasons for Ne-leading.

Picasso is ESi- Se. dunno why he's typed sle around.

“Art seems to me to be a state of soul more than anything else.”

“The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.”

“What do you think an artist is? ...he is a political being, constantly aware of the heart breaking, passionate, or delightful things that happen in the world, shaping himself completely in their image. Painting is not done to decorate apartments. It is an instrument of war.”

“Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions. ”

“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web. ”

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”

LSI or SLI. SEE is possibly due to his expression of color yet I find that it may be a S thing and all these type have a handsome S.
