    Default WHen you're "Stressed" - I, E, or company

Is it too MBTI to say that introverts generally feel like they need to spend time alone, whereas extroverts feel an increased need to talk or do things with others?

Or is it more a matter of spending time in the company of "good people", or, people you are comfortable with, rather than "I or E"?

I DEFINITELY want to stay alone when I'm stressed, to rest.

I tend to reach my extraversion "saturation" point and generally just feel the need to get away from everyone. (Including close friends at times). It's very much a matter of ebb and flow. I can extravert just until the stores are depleted. Even close to my maximum and I get anxious and irritable.

When I'm solitary, I usually get this feeling of peace, like it's just my natural default equilibrium.

When I am just stressed, alone time mostly. Reset. But it cannot last very long. Whenever something happens relation-wise, I look for people to talk to.

Too much time alone bothers me. The worst is being alone and not having anything to do.

I really like my own company whether I am in a stressed or unstressed state usually. I am far more likely to get bored in the company of others than when by myself too and boredom does increase my stress level.

Depends on the nature of the stress.

Right now I'm stressed over school, and want my roommates to take a vacation. I need space to breathe.

In the past, people and other situations have stressed me out and I really wish I had someone to unload on.

Edit: That said, if someone else is stressed over the same thing as I am, listening to them vent calms me big time. i.e. other kids bitching about the coursework.

    It depends...

If I'm stressed, and depressed, I tend to want to hang out with my close friends.

If I'm just stressed, I tend to want to be alone.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. There's a point past which I no longer have the energy to deal with anyone, and I just want to be alone... and want everyone else to go away. I can spend long periods of time alone and feel at ease. If I spend long periods of time with other people I get tense, irritated, pissy, annoyed, etc. When I lived in university housing, I lived in a house with 50 other girls, and shared a room with 3 other people, and we all slept in one room... I felt like I was going to go crazy... I could never get any time to myself. I felt trapped and suffocated. It didn't help that most of the residents were these literalist Christian people who were frequently having bible studies in the house, and a few of them had taken it upon themselves to "save me." GRRRRRR. Anyway it's over now.

Generally when I'm stressed I want the company of one person: Peter. Sometimes conversation with a Fi friend can help the most though, depending on the situation.

Can you not create something to do?

When I'm stressed....I will either want to be alone to reflect for a little while, or have people around to jokingly abuse (they most always know I'm kidding) because it helps relieve me, I dunno..

I have to say that stress is something I hate and try everything not to be stressed, generally.

Dealing with stress effectively isn't my strong suit right now. I have no stresses about long term stuff... it's short term stresses that really get to me.

Stress = need of friends and a blunt
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

I absolutely need to be alone. I get stressed very easily. Being around people only increases it.

    Ugh.

That kind of close quarters really gets to me. My first year in college was like that. Strangers, close living in a dorm "suite" with 6 other girls. I had to share a single room smaller than my home BEDROOM with another person! Living in my bedroom with someone else? No wonder I had an identity crisis that year! Nothing like an inconsiderate roommate who stole my food stores and brought friends to the room to wake me up in the middle of the night.

Not to mention, I was pretty idealistic and sheltered. I didn't like parties, drinking, drugging, nor constant socialising (still don't really like excess in any of these areas.)

Take it from me, I find trying not to be stressed once I already am just creates EVEN MORE stress.

Ahhahaha yeah, what I meant is, I just try not to even get in the stressed state. And when I am, I just take my bike and the train and take a day completely off biking somewhere far from home...

Anyway in spite of the fact that I'm a strong extravert I do reach the "saturation point" you people describe too, especially in regards to people I don't really particularly like (although I don't really reach it in regard to close friends and girlfriend)

by history, i want to be around others when stressed, for jokes, talk, distraction etc.

i've seen the error of this, however. now i'm more likely to try to be alone. people say making lists helps, but i hate making lists; i'd rather keep it all in my head. sleeping, yoga, TV, all these things help.
