Default What does this song mean to you

I have my own interpretation but I'm curious what others think.

    Artist: Frou Frou Lyrics
    Song: Let Go Lyrics

    Drink up baby down
Are you in or are you out?
    Leave your things behind
'Cause it's all going off without you
Excuse me too busy you're writing a tragedy
    These mess-ups
    You bubble-wrap
When you've no idea what you're like

    So, let go
    Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
    It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
    So, let go
    Just get in
    Oh, it's so amazing here
    It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

It gains the more it gives
And then advances with the form
    So, honey, back for more
Can't you see that all the stuff's essential?
    Such boundless pleasure
    We've no time for later
    Now you can wait
    You roll your eyes
    We've twenty seconds to comply

    So, let go
    Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
    It's al right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
    So, let go
    Just get in
    Oh, it's so amazing here
    It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

Well, I read through it and realized I had no idea what the writer was talking about. So, I went and found the song - the music itself often offers clues as to the true intention of the writer.

The melodic and harmonic motif seems to center around the lyrics "It's all right; 'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown." Now, it's a fact that 99.9% of popular music is written about love, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say "breakdown" refers to the breakdown of a relationship. Basically, the chorus revolves around the interesting notions that the breakdown can actually be a good thing - poetic in its tragedy, purging in its pain. The writer exhorts one to "let go (of the old relationship), jump in (and immerse yourself in the process of breaking away)... what you waiting for?"

Originally, when I read the lyrics, I read it in a fragmented way. But, when I heard the singer, I noticed she reads the lines "these mess-ups you bubble-wrap when you've no idea what you're like" as a complete phrase. It's true that we none of us can trully see what we're like - we none of us can really understand how we come accross to other people or how we affect those we love. And our "mess-ups" - those things we have done to offend those around us - we tend to trivialize as our personality, though to those we have hurt, it may have been shattering.

The second verse after the chorus gives us a clue into the writer's mindset. "It gains the more it gives; and then advances with the form; so, honey, back for more; can't you see that all the stuff's essential?" <- the breaking process - letting go of the old relationship - is a process of renewal. One that purges you and brings you back to a state where you can basically live again.

That's how I heard it, at least.

Stop hiding from your problems and jump headfirst into the Nothingness that pervades your soul. It's an existentialist song, I think.

Means nothing to me. Sounds like stream-of-thought ala White Stripes mumbo jumbo.

Actually now that I think about it, this song's message is the exact message in Fight Club.

Very interesting. What I got from it was the following,a lso the music indicated to me that theres a lot of Fe in there so it might be aimed to Ti, and its from the movie Garden State which is about an INTj and ESFj, I think it's from ESFj to INTj...

    Drink up baby down
    --- No idea

Are you in or are you out?
--- Are you going to participate in life or not, true or false?, come on logic boy.

    Leave your things behind
--- Leave your dwelling and hindsite alone

'Cause it's all going off without you
--- Because life is moving forward

Excuse me too busy you're writing a tragedy
--- Sorry to bother you while you are in private feeling sorry for yourself

    These mess-ups
    You bubble-wrap
When you've no idea what you're like
--- You have no Se and can't see yourself as others do, and think you are a bad person for the mistakes you made in the past such as acceptance of other's blame

    So, let go
    Jump in
--- Stop trying to figure out who you are and plug into the heirarchy

Oh well, what you waiting for?
--- Don't be a pussy, just do it, Se Se come on!

    It's all right
    --- It's safe

'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
    So, let go
    Just get in
--- At least you'll live life and enjoy it, so accept your place in society and start using that Fi

    Oh, it's so amazing here
    It's all right
--- I was gifted with Fe and can telly ou first hand that this F thing kicks ass

'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
--- Because once you are in the heirarchy its pretty damn cool to see how it all works and participate.

It gains the more it gives
    --- Alturism? Bonvivant? Self sacrificial?

And then advances with the form
    --- [No idea]

    So, honey, back for more
Can't you see that all the stuff's essential?
--- If you don't pluge in you are fucked!

    Such boundless pleasure
    We've no time for later
--- It really does kick ass, and life is running out so hurry up and get ur shit together

    Now you can wait
    You roll your eyes
    We've twenty seconds to comply
--- INTj is pissed about all the Se force involved but is rolls his eyes and says, fuck it, im jumping in, ESFj pressures him even more by setting a 20 second dead line.

    So, let go
    Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
    It's al right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
    --- Yatta yatta yatta

    So, let go
    Just get in
    Oh, it's so amazing here
    It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
    --- Yatta yatta yatta
