    Default Power Music

    Like this, kind of

Led Zepplin's "When the Levee Breaks", another example.

I suppose "Pompeii" from ES Posthumus as well. Preferably instrumental / orchestrated / movie kind of music.

"Bodies", by drowning pool, would go in this category, although obviously not instrumental.

This is "Peaceful Bean," by Joshua Morse. From Bound Together, a remix project of Earthbound. It's available in a Torrent with the rest of the project, but I figured no one would bother downloading it that way, so here's a link:

You're going in the wrong direction. Have you ever heard Bodies or Levee?

I love Requiem for a Dream... but I don't think of it as "power music," more like tragic music. It's sad in a way.

The low base clef part that goes kind of like {Bflat, A, G, D 3 times and then C Bflat, A, Bflat 1 time, repeating} is sort of like this underlying tragic tension... as though something dark is brewing beneath the surface. Then it is complimented by the sort of treble clef melody {G, A, Bflat, G, F, Eflat, G} where both G's are twice as long as the other notes... that part is sad, mournful almost. Then there's the "powerful" sounding part, the: Bflat, G, Bflat, G... over and over, followed by the Bflat, A, Bflat, A... over and over... and that part is like the underlying tension being released into something forceful, an explosion of the tension... and when that sad melody returns, it's like something tragic has happened... some expression of pain, and nothing will ever be the same again.

What sucks about Pompeii is that the drums are so fake and stereotypical.

I like Octopus Projects "What They Found" for its drums....
Even though it is a "simple" rhythm, it is live, and the sound is much crisper, more powerful.

For the record: Drums are most important for me. And don't let really stupid vocals get in the way. No drums, no song.

Do you mean for Lord of the Rings? (obviously, it was used throughout Requiem for a Dream). It was used in the trailers for the Two Towers, because the soundtrack for the film hadn't been finished at the time, or something.

If you can atune your ears to something a little older/primal, this is pretty empowering - Nina Simone's version of "Sinnerman." It gets remixed up a lot (Kanye West and Timbaland have both sampled it at one point). It progressively builds in fervor and is just generally awesome (in a different way):

I've got the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack - its very dark and terse - I'm not sure you'd consider it power music though. Quite a lot of it is string heavy, rather than drum heavy. I think it's O.K., but its a bit too much for me to listen to in one go .

What do you think of this? It's the instrumental version of 'I'm Not Driving Anymore' by Rob Dougan - I think this is used as the theme tune of Law And Order, and some of his music was in The Matrix films.

The one about the matrix is ok...... but, it sounds just like ES posthumous. The drumming is too fake, it disappoints and takes the life out of it.

I finally looked into "Requiem for a Dream" -the movie. Yes, it is"sad", as it should be. But even then its music can have a use.

The truth about things is brutal - and perhaps that is what is captured in the song I posted.

Yes, actually, I believe the movie actually enhances the song now. You see the collapse, the severity, the pain, the disgust.

I've loved this song ever since hearing it in the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair" (the latest remake with Pierce Brosnan). Timbaland's new album sampled it for the first track on Shock Value and I only listen to that first song just because I really like this song.

lol, nice. I remember when I first got that DVD back in the day. I would put it in to listen to that song... so I would be doing dishes and skip to that part of the movie to have that song playing...haha.

Heh, I think the song "The Trial" from that album had more "epic" and "power" feel to it.

What albums are you two talking about?

You just list songs, no author, no band, etc.
Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.
If you're in this forum to learn something, be careful. Lots of misplaced toxicity.

~an extraverted consciousness is unable to believe in invisible forces.
~a certain mysterious power that may prove terribly fascinating to the extraverted man, for it touches his unconscious.

sorry... I just assume everyones a stoner I guess

    Pink Floyd - The Wall

songs posted were In the Flesh, and Run Like Hell

this is The Trial which is essentially the end/cresendo of the movie/album (the song Birds was talking about)

personally I think in context he/she is right... but without having seen the rest of the movie I think the two I posted have more power.

Yeah, "The Wall" is the epic "concept album" by Pink Floyd. And the animation for the song "The Trial" is reaaaaaally awesome...

And yeah, the song "In The Flesh" has a lot of power. I don't even listen to Pink Floyd that much anymore... but that reminded me of a cool Pink Floyd song called "Not Now John" from the album "The Final Cut".

Oh yeah, and I'm a he.
