Erik Satie

A most innovative composer whose influence is still evident in current electronica explorations, among other forms. From what I've read of him in the past, and his writings, he seems to have been a pleasantly eccentric, master of subtle "hilarity." I would've loved to have known him personally. What a character.

I've always been drawn to Satie's music the most -- his music transports me to another time. I think he's my identical. Taciturn/Asker, smiles like I used to, lived in an ivory tower.

My initial thoughts were xNxp or ISFp.

I always thought he was ENTp, in part because he wrote lots of short pieces that explored some new idea, rather than trying to develop the idea in depth, and in part because he seemed to say a lot of things that he didn't take seriously, just sort of to play with people's minds.

But he may have been INp too. I suspect a lot of really good composers were INTp and INFp.

In the past and in the last few days I've seen typings including ILE, ILI, IEI, and maybe SEI for him.

I don't think it is too controversial to say that the Impressionist musicians (and painters) were disproportionately represented by IXXp types (I currently agree\go with Ravel: SLI, Debussy: SEI, Chopin: IEI...ok, he wasn't "technically" of the Impressionist era...)

My view is that Satie was ILI, based on his musical style and extreme social awkwardness

Most of his music sounds Ni as fuk, it's a kind of time-spanning timeless spiraling experience. There's also the element of absurdism, but I'm not sure how type-related that is. There are few opportunities for emotional expression in the music, either. Fe-valuing seems a stretch there.

The INTp suggestions make the most sense to me.
