Yes, I agree. All things being equal, Gamma is "meaner" than Delta - although I wouldn't see Philip's remarks as "mean".

I think "harsh" is a good word to describe Gamma vs. Delta. It's the Se. There's also the matter of INTps being negativists, too.

Yes, but that's probably one of the least noticeable differences.

the following about "goth" is meant as a joke ( i find many of you cannot understand jokes).

ISTp would be more likely to adopt goth lifestyle/appearance than INTps, therefore making him appear more negative than the INTp boy in khaki and glasses wading through thoughts of suicide in the life of Hesse while smiling to the picture on the wall. My suggestion is that ISTps may be more imposingly negative, whereas INTp may bury much of his negativism in wit so that people are often wondering whether it was meant warmly or coldly.

ya we do have this problem of not being aware of the political sensitivities. I remember when I was in 7th grade I made a remark to my teacher about a fellow stupident, called him a retard or something. It turns out the teacher was a retard-trainer. So he was pissed I would use that word. I started explaining to him how the word meant something different when used in the way I was using it, he didn't really seem to fly crazy for what I was saying... ended up calling my parents.
There are many instances, I'm sure every INTp has them

lol. wow, yeah i've had the problem too, of people not understanding the subtle irony i'm trying to imply and taking away from my remarks something really rude and vulgar. In church one time, we were engaging in an activity where we were supposed to stand up one at a time, and talk about what we were thankful for. So everyone was being a real suck up with the activity, and it was rubbing against my PoLR.. so I stood up and said "i'm thankful for people, and heads." The comment was supposed to be seen a bizarre contrast with the happy bullshit people were dishing out around me... i was imagining in my mind literally, decapitated heads. But it turns out almost everyone in the church thought I was talking about something else, no one got what I was trying to say... some people thought I was talking about the heads of penises, some people thought I was talking about girls heads which are good for sucking dicks, others thought I was talking about brains, implying other people were stupid.... etc. I guess I didn't even think about how people would interpret the comment, it just seemed obvious to me, that the literal interpretation: heads.. would imply decapitated heads, and they would see the contrast, and .... yeah.

those are hilarious... and if he was intending to show the stupidity of those stereotypes, even better. though i could never imagine myself being that insensitive... or saying things which might cause other people to perceive me as believing in the stereotypes (which I'm sure is how some people perceive him for saying those things)... does that mean I'm not likely to be an INTp?

Not at all. Despite the reputation we have, we're not all completely ignorant of how we come across to others. Especially in adulthood (IME anyway) INTps become more socially aware. Saying that though, it can be something that might be associated with INTps, but it's not a requirement. If that makes any sense whatsoever. Probably doesn't but still.. I like to talk. Not that anyone's noticed of course.

Fe PoLR, in this case, is about making remarks that go against what would be emotionally and socially acceptable in a given ethical situation -- it's about being "rude", even though his intentions may not be such. In the example of the number of dead people in that uprising in India, for instance, he may be factually right, but if the people there have an emotional attachment to that event, for the husband of the British queen to say that may be seen as extremely tactless, even if his intention was just to say, "hmm, this number is not correct".

Fi PoLR is about not really understanding, or taking into consideration, someone else's ethical PoV it it's not stated -- for instance, a typical example would be a guy telling a joke about you, in your presence, and in presence of others, for the sake of making everyone else laugh, even if it's hurtful for you personally and s/he should be aware of it. He (I'll say he) is focusing on optimizing the Fe mood of the people around, not taking into account (not even occurring to him) that you, individually, might be hurt. That is Fi PoLR. Fi in relation of an individual person is not really considered when focusing on Fe.

That doesn't apply to Hitchens in the example above because he wasn't focusing on the other people at all -- he was simply saying what he thought to a particular individual.
I think it's right to say that one isn't really thinking about the polr when they're using their creative function. I don't understand the second example of Fi polr though. maybe it is my own weak Fi, but how could anyone know what (a stranger's) particular point of view is if it's not stated? Maybe if you say an INTp is focusing only on factual accuracy and is oblivious to the mood it would create to state that accuracy, you could say an ExTp is only focusing on Ti. Or, you could say how an INTp would be neglecting his polr in favor of his Fi HA, to match the example you've given. It strikes me as off, but I probably don't understand it. Does anyone else want to agree or disagree with that example?

He was using Ni, Te, and not caring about Fe. Classic INTp remark.
How is Te used in this example? He is forcasting on the basis of the factual event of a ban? I relate to this reaction but perhaps the difference in type would affect what was actually done. I could see myself saying the same thing but maybe in a "considerate" tone? But if someone chastized me I would likely feel defensive as well.

    ...

I got in trouble on another forum when I took it into my head to reply to a few people complaining of life problems. I'll go see if I can dig them back up...

    - Her: OK, so not so long ago I failed at something major in my life, so now I am a confused person who lacks self confidence and direction.. How do I start afresh and re-gain the confidence I once had? Suggestions?
    - Me: Buy some at Wal-Mart.
    - Me: (after several outraged posters) Seriously, Wal-Mart is the place to go. what this girl needs is some Confidence Booster, generic brand, five bucks for a six pack.

Okay, I wanted to post the entire seuence, but the mods were quite thorough. Heh. I really wasn't trying to stomp on people's sensibilities (not really), but I confess that when people don't catch the subtleties in my messages, and instead attack me with pitchforks and flaming brands, I kind of start to feel an edge of disdain for them... Nothing too hard, though.
And this, too, shall pass away.

    these are hilarious

an ILI girl I know posted this on her facebook page: "My right foot is slightly larger than the left foot. I slouch, cross my feet when walking, and my left eye can't see. Four of my hairs have turned grey. Sometimes I think that I am one hundred years and that I can read minds, but I just have a good imagination."

Not Fe PoLR, but I have said some things along the same lines.

Most recent example was when I was in a seminar for mentor training (to induct the next set of first years at university) and we were given a scenario that we'd have to use our judgement to solve, which in this particular case was "What would you do if it came to your attention that a group of students intended to climb a tall building on campus?" and I said under my breath "let natural selection take care of the rest". About 3 rows of people heard it and laughed and turned around to look at me.

Because I have incredibly awesome Fe I recently told some girl I could see her camel toe through her leggings. Turns out people don't like that.

If my camel toe were showing I would want to know, honestly. Luckily I have enough sense to know how unflattering that shit is in general. Ick.

Actually I said: "Usted tiene un problema con su concha" and then I gestured to her vageen area. Which, in retrospect, probably wasn't the most polite way to put it.

One should definitely want to know about such things as having a camel toe & it's most helpful, useful and kind to indicate such things or have them pointed out to yourself!

If I didn't share such things with others then what kind of friend am I...and what kind of friend would they be to me if they didn't return the favour...
Sometimes though, well quite often actually, I have to ask others to mention such things to me, teach them that it's ok and actually appreciated :-)

Fe PoLr: is basically everything cpig has ever said and will ever say.

If I had a camel toe..I would not want someone physically pointing at it, ya dick.

actually be honest, whenever someone points at me in any way I assume I have a growth or bird poop or a boogie (so i speedwalk the other way).

A guy I worked with who I think is ILI and I were talking about his taste in women. He was saying that he doesn't really care if a girl is super skinny as long as she's not fat fat, either. (This was after I'd gained 50 lbs in six months due to quitting Adderall and smoking at the same time, and he'd known me since I was skinny.) He actually said, "Like what do you weigh?" I told him, and he shrugged and said, "Yeah, that'd be fine."

lol. I don't think he realized that most women would have been offended by both the question and his response to the answer. (I just thought it was funny.)

lol. I don't think he realized that most women would have been offended by both the question and his response to the answer. (I just thought it was funny.)

Yeah, I don't really get that, either. Maybe it seemed like a less direct way to say it?

Seems like he was using Joy's weight as a good indicator for the weight level he goes for. Given that Joy was skinny before and is now probably more at a middle of the road kind of weight (post-Adderall and smoking), it would've made for a decent example, so he'd use her to get the numerical reference of the weight. Given that he had to ask, I hardly think he's going by numbers generally.

A couple hours after a really bad snowmobile accident where one of our friends crashed into a tree and was rushed to ER -

    Me: excited to ski tomorrow?

My ILI brother: I haven't been skiing in a long time, I hope I don't fall - or worse - crash into a tree. Too soon?

me to a friend (IEI sx/so):"Ah! I'm sooo glad that you'll be lonely out there." (I meant to show her that I like her so much I am glad she'll visit me often to get company.)

    She got it.

Lots of ILI Fe PoLR remarks often revolve around an incapability for them to understand jokes that many others find obvious. The perplexity of their reactions makes them somewhat humorous when this happens.

tbh, I've NEVER seen this with ILI. It's usually them making the (actually really funny) jokes that others don't get bc they are too busy being pc. It might be that growing up with an ILI brother, I've just stopped thinking what he does is weird. Or it might be like what I think chriscorey was saying, that it only applies to young and immature Fe-polrs. They grow out of it really well imo. I haven't really seen it with SLI either, usually they compensate for not having an appropriate facial expression with a comeback or addendum to the original joke that's just as good. In other words, they get jokes.

    LII on the other hand...

    edit:

actually I think for a lot of the more absolute statements I make (i've never/always), I'm thinking exclusively of people I know irl. Browsing around here a bit, there are ILI typed people on this forum acting the way you say, though we can't really "see" their initial reactions.

    you'd be what? 180 pounds?

i dunno i more concerned with girls who weigh too little. like say 100 pounds.

maybe i am ili. i used to ask girls what they weighed all the time. most girls seem to weigh between about 120 and 140 pounds. but i'm all for being socially impolite.

although i suppose you'd call that trolling. i'd also say that you could judge people by their bedrooms and get people to describe what it's in their bedrooms. i suppose that'd be creepy to you too. but it's less trollish.

that said, it'd probably be different if i asked fat people.

The tactlessness actually sounds more like weak Fi, and the overwhelming amount of reliance on stereotypes seems to have an aristocratic bent.

That's why it's difficult. All types can lack tact. You can't just say because someone does this or does that it means that they are one type or another.

My Fe PoLR manifest itself when people say, or imply that I'm not compassionate, empathic, and/or sympathetic to other when in fact I am. I just don't put it as main priority in my decision making process there needs to be balance between ethos and logos. If someone were to ask why I do not donate money to starving kids in Africa? I would say, "Millions of dollars are donated to starving Africans a year in spite of this there has been no significant changes. If people there are so desperate for their survival why don't they move somewhere else, or band together fix the cause of the problem, or take the resources they need. By giving them what they've not earned all have taught them is dependency on others kindness. Not mention that their starvation is merely a symptom of a greater affliction that has yet to be addressed."

"If you seek to aid everyone that suffers in the galaxy, you will only weaken yourself… and weaken them. It is the internal struggles, when fought and won on their own, that yield the strongest rewards. You stole that struggle from them, cheapened it. If you care for others, then dispense with pity and sacrifice and recognize the value in letting them fight their own battles. And when they triumph, they will be even stronger for the victory."
