Maybe he should just respect his kids privacy and instead educate them about the world. Rather than trying to keep them naive and ignorant.

It is due to the fact he knows kids can find better porn than him.

that's exactly how I feel about it too. however, I am not the parent, and he asked me to get something for him, so I'm asking. Also, knowing my brother... this isn't to keep them naive and ignorant, but to know when and about what they are getting curious about so that he can educate them.

I would just buy a $100 piece of hardware known as a combined router and firewall and put it between the internet and all the computers in the local network.

Then I would just need to browse the logs on the firewall to see exactly what people have been up to. And block sites and types of traffic according to what the logs reveal.

my brother isn't that computer literate. I'd have to be doing all of that work, which I'm not going to do. So I need some simple software designed for illiterate parents.

To make this easy, if you don't have kids and don't have software to monitor their internet activity (or aren't aware of any) you really don't need to respond. I'm not looking for a discussion about this, I could care less tbh (which is why I'm not even wanting to bother looking for it myself)

There's a program that does exactly what he wants. Unfortunately I don't remember it's name. It was talked about in a tv-document about pedophiles.

There are many programs that do this. This looks reliable, though it's priced at 69.95 USD.

NetNanny is the one that I've heard the most about.

They've been doing this since like 1994.

everything is free on the internet price doesn't matter, as long as it isn't a service that you need to sign up/log on online for.

I can understand parents with very young kids wanting the monitor and control their children's internet usage, but once they get older (specific age depending on maturity level) I would let them look at whatever they want after talking to them about it.

yes, and I'm pretty sure that's how my brother feels. However, I would probably want to be aware of what they were seeking out in case they took an interrest to something that we hadn't covered yet.

I mean there's no need to have a discussion about Japanese eel penetration videos with a kid unless he happens to be obsessing over seeking out that sort thing.

You're doing it wrong.

Other than NetNanny that was already mentioned, you'll need to be a bit more specific. Is it just monitoring the web sites visited, or computer use in general?

Perhaps a keylogger that can take screenshots at set time intervals and can run stealthy in the background? There's a few good ones you could download.

Being a parent you have more options for assuring your child a safe online environment. You can use parental control software, internet filtering, spy software, create a restricted account, use a browser specific for kids. And each parent can decide what method to use as long as his child is not major and lives under the same roof.
I can recommend you some tools and resources:
All-Spy Keylogger - computer spy software
Internet Content Filtering Software (this is used more in companies not for one or two pc)
Application Blocker Pro- parental software
Web Browser for Kids - KidRocket - PC Desktop Protection
Good luck

You'd be surprised.

That said, I know someone who had a cheap network unsecured so idiots would steal his internet and he would steal their personal information. He usually sent that information back to them telling them to use their own secured networks instead of giving people a free ticket to their bank accounts.
